Torsten Solin

Photographer, Germany

Torsten Solin is an artist who works and lives in Berlin, Germany.
Solin started in the visual arts through graffiti and street art, and later graduated and post-graduated in painting. Since 2021, the artist has been teaching painting and drawing at the JugendKunstschule Lichtenberg and the Kunstraum 360° art space, both in Berlin. Torsten Solin has exhibited in several German cities as well as in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and the United States. His works appear in various European publications and private and public collections.

For more than ten years, the artist has been working on the theme of mirroring. The broken mirror is Solin’s metaphor for the filter of subjective perception and its role in the mechanisms of constructing identity, reality and truth. It is the argument for the impossibility of any objectivity.

The broken, fragmented, dismembered is sabotaging and irritating the satisfaction of the viewer’s voyeuristic curiosity, it asks for more imagination, fantasy and does not reduce the distance from the real subject.
The resulting distortion of the face and body leaves the mirrored image to be recognised as a whole. However, it also creates at the same time a new and unknown reproduction of reality that is not only questioning the truth of the reflected image, but also the photograph itself.
